Albuquerque, NM – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of northeast and east-central New Mexico from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. MST on Wednesday due to high winds and critically low humidity levels.
According to the National Weather Service, strong westerly winds gusting up to 45 mph will develop late Wednesday morning east of the Sangre de Cristo and Sandia Mountains, extending to the Texas and Oklahoma borders. Humidity levels are expected to drop as low as 8 percent, creating extreme fire danger.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and report any fires immediately. The Fire Weather Watch previously in place has been upgraded to this Red Flag Warning.
