Albuquerque, NM – Unusually warm conditions and record-breaking temperatures are set to hit Albuquerque and surrounding areas this weekend. Forecasters predict temperatures up to 7-17 degrees above the seasonal average, creating hazardous conditions throughout New Mexico. Albuquerque Sunport is expected to reach 94 degrees on Saturday, threatening to break a heat record set in 1979. Clovis, Gallup, and Roswell are also facing record heat, with highs potentially reaching 97 degrees in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, the unseasonably hot and dry weather will continue into the weekend, with little relief in sight. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and avoid travel on heat-sensitive roadways such as I-40 during peak temperatures, especially on Saturday afternoon.

The forecast also warns of fire dangers due to dry air and wind. The hottest areas include Roswell and Portales, where highs could surpass 95 degrees. For those planning to travel across the state or spend time outdoors, officials advise taking heat precautions and staying tuned for updates as conditions could change rapidly.

Looking ahead, the heat will persist into early next week, but slight cooling is expected by Wednesday. Temperatures in Albuquerque are forecasted to drop to the low 80s by midweek, bringing some relief.
