Albuquerque, N.M. – Torrential rain continues to sweep across central and eastern New Mexico, with flooding possible from Raton Pass to Roswell through Tuesday afternoon, prompting officials to warn of dangerous road conditions and rising waterways.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a Flood Watch remains in effect for much of north central, northeast, and southeastern New Mexico, including the Central Highlands, Union County, and the Chaves County Plains. The threat will persist through 6 a.m. in southern areas and until late Tuesday afternoon elsewhere, as multiple rounds of heavy rain drop 1 to 3 inches over already saturated ground.

Communities in and around Clovis, Tucumcari, and Las Vegas are at elevated risk for flash flooding, especially in poor drainage areas, low-water crossings, and near burn scars. Raton Pass travelers should be especially cautious as runoff could quickly flood mountain roads and creeks.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and monitor alerts from NMDOT and local emergency managers. Urban areas could see fast water accumulation overnight, and rural roads may become impassable by morning.

Flood Watches remain in effect across the region, with additional warnings possible as rain continues. Stay tuned for updates and have emergency plans ready if conditions worsen.
