SANTA FE, NM — A Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning as heavy rainfall continues to threaten the U.S. 84 corridor and surrounding areas. Residents are urged to take precautions as flash flooding could result from the persistent rain.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains and their eastern slopes are expected to see heavy downpours, with rainfall totals reaching 2-4 inches in some areas. The burn scar areas from recent wildfires, including the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon, are at increased risk for dangerous flash floods.

Motorists are advised to avoid low-water crossings and be cautious on roads, especially near creeks and streams. The NWS advises monitoring local alerts and having an evacuation plan ready if flood warnings are issued. Stay informed by checking weather updates and be prepared to take action if conditions worsen.
