Philadelphia, PA – The fire weather season is beginning early in the Philadelphia region as strong winds and dry conditions increase the risk of wildfires on Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service Mount Holly, leftover dry vegetation combined with gusty winds up to 40 mph will create ideal conditions for fire spread. Minimum relative humidity will drop as low as 27-30% across much of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.
The strongest wind gusts, reaching 35-40 mph, will affect areas including Philadelphia, Trenton, and Wilmington. Dry conditions are expected to persist until trees fully leaf out later in the season.
Residents should avoid outdoor burning and use caution with potential ignition sources, such as cigarettes or fire pits. Fire crews remain on alert for any flare-ups.
