Mount Holly, N.J. – Unseasonably warm air will sweep across the Mid-Atlantic today, with afternoon highs topping out in the 80s for much of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware—just ahead of an approaching cold front that could bring gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms by evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, southwest winds will increase to 15–20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, particularly in areas north and west of the Fall Line—including Allentown, Reading, and Trenton. The strongest storms are expected later this afternoon into early evening, posing a risk for sudden downpours and reduced visibility on roadways.

Philadelphia, Wilmington, and surrounding suburbs will feel more like mid-June than mid-April, but residents should remain alert as winds increase and storm chances rise. In South Jersey, Atlantic City and Cape May may avoid most storm activity but will still experience breezy, warm conditions.

Despite the warm air, water temperatures remain dangerously cold—hovering in the upper 40s and low 50s. NWS warns that hypothermia is a risk for anyone entering unguarded waters.

Scattered storm chances continue into tonight as the front clears the region. Additional updates are expected if storm development becomes more widespread.
