Newton, NJ – Residents of Sussex County, NJ, and the Poconos region in Pennsylvania are bracing for hazardous winter weather expected to hit Sunday evening, potentially impacting Monday morning commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Sussex County from 10 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday. The advisory warns of mixed precipitation, with total snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations creating a light glaze.
In Carbon and Monroe counties, PA, including Stroudsburg and Jim Thorpe, the advisory begins earlier, at 7 p.m. Sunday, and remains in effect until 9 a.m. Monday. This area could see 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet, with similar light ice accumulation.
The weather service reports precipitation will begin as snow, transitioning to sleet and freezing rain overnight, before changing to rain by Monday morning. Motorists should anticipate slippery road conditions and are urged to exercise caution, particularly during the Monday commute.
