New York, NY – Drivers and residents in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Jersey waterfront should stay alert today as a coastal flood warning remains in effect through Thursday evening, threatening vulnerable neighborhoods with up to six inches of water.

According to the National Weather Service, the flood statement covers Hudson, Eastern Essex, and Union counties in New Jersey, and the New York boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn (Kings), and Staten Island (Richmond). Minor flooding is likely this evening near the shoreline and along low-lying roads like FDR Drive, the Belt Parkway, and areas near the Hudson River Greenway. The heaviest rain is expected before 8 p.m., with lingering showers into early Friday.

Rain eases overnight, and by Friday the city will see a chance of light afternoon showers with highs in the upper 50s—still cool for late May. Saturday brings a full shift toward summer, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 81°F. Sunday and Memorial Day look seasonably warm, topping out in the mid-60s to near 70°F under partly cloudy skies.

Memorial Day Weekend Outlook:

  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, high near 81°F
  • Sunday: Partly cloudy, high 65°F
  • Memorial Day (Monday): Slight chance of showers, low 59°F, high 69°F
  • Tuesday: 40% rain chance, high 63°F
  • Wednesday: More showers possible, high 65°F
