New York, NY – Portions of southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York are under a Winter Storm Warning from 1 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday. The National Weather Service predicts heavy snow with accumulations of 5 to 7 inches.
According to the National Weather Service, affected areas include Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven, Northern Middlesex, Western Passaic, Eastern Passaic, and parts of Bergen, Essex, and Union counties. In New York, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Northern Westchester counties are also in the warning zone.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to become slick and hazardous, making travel conditions difficult. Authorities urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to check local Department of Transportation updates for road conditions.
Drivers who must travel are advised to keep an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles. Snow is expected to begin Sunday afternoon, intensify through the evening, and taper off early Monday morning.
