Manchester, N.H. – Blistering heat is set to grip much of New Hampshire Sunday, with heat index values nearing 96°F and dangerous humidity through Monday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Sunday through 8 p.m. Monday for interior and coastal areas, including Manchester, Nashua, Concord, and Salem. Southwest and western Maine are also under the advisory. Highs will soar to 94°F Sunday and stay in the 90s Monday, with muggy conditions increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Residents are urged to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, especially between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and to stay hydrated in air-conditioned environments. Children, pets, and the elderly are especially vulnerable. Never leave anyone in a parked vehicle. Cooling shelters may open in some areas if conditions worsen.
Sunday’s heat will be followed by increased chances of thunderstorms Monday night, especially after 8 p.m., with possible heavy downpours and gusty winds. Temperatures stay high into Tuesday, with a high near 86°F and more storms expected.
Travelers on I-93, Route 3, and I-89 should prepare for slick roads during evening commutes Monday and Tuesday.
