Boston, MA – Clear skies and cooler coastal breezes are setting the tone across Massachusetts today as the region eases into May with a burst of sunshine. While much of inland Massachusetts and northern Connecticut will enjoy highs reaching 70 to 71°F, spots along the coast, including Provincetown and Nantucket, will linger in the mid to upper 50s.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, temperatures will climb into the upper 60s to near 70°F for Worcester, Springfield, and Hartford by early afternoon. However, sea breezes will keep cities like Boston and Plymouth noticeably cooler, hovering near 61°F and 56°F respectively. Coastal Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts will also stay cooler, with highs capped in the upper 50s.
The dry and sunny weather will offer ideal conditions for outdoor activities, especially inland. However, coastal residents should be prepared for breezier and cooler conditions throughout the day. Light layers are recommended near the water, and UV levels are expected to be moderate to high, so sunscreen is advised.
This calm, pleasant weather marks a quiet start to May after a wetter-than-average April. No additional advisories are expected, but NWS says the next update will come early Thursday morning should conditions change.
