Massachusetts – A sharp chill grips Boston and eastern Massachusetts this morning, the city waking under clear skies and a biting 16°F breeze. The air feels like mid-January, but changes are already moving in — and they’ll arrive with snowflakes.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service Boston/Norton are tracking a developing system that could bring snow showers Tuesday night, followed by a rain-snow mix Wednesday into Thursday. While major accumulation isn’t expected, icy roads and reduced visibility could complicate midweek travel, especially along I-90 and Route 128.

By Wednesday morning, highs rise into the 40s, but brisk southwest winds up to 30 mph will make it feel cooler. A few periods of rain may transition back to wet snow before drier, colder air settles in late Thursday. Commuters should prepare for slippery spots during both the Wednesday morning and evening rush hours.

Friday looks crisp and clear — a classic New England winter day — with highs near 34°F and plenty of sunshine before another chance of light snow returns over the weekend.

5-Day Outlook (Dec. 9–13)

  • Wednesday: High 47°F, breezy with rain and snow mix.
  • Thursday: High 35°F, chance of light snow or drizzle.
  • Friday: High 34°F, sunny and calm.
  • Saturday: High 37°F, partly sunny and cool.
  • Sunday: High 33°F, snow chance 40%.
