Boston, MA – Southern New England experienced steady rainfall over the past 48 hours, with totals exceeding two inches in some areas. The precipitation brought relief to parts of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest rainfall was observed in parts of Essex County, Massachusetts, where totals reached 2.57 inches. Notable amounts were also recorded in Connecticut’s Hartford County, with Salmon Brook seeing 1.98 inches. Rhode Island’s Providence County observed up to 1.99 inches in Greenville.
Meteorologists noted the rain was beneficial for replenishing groundwater and supporting late-season vegetation. While no significant flooding occurred, the consistent rain has mitigated dry conditions in several areas.
The precipitation was part of a larger system moving across the Northeast, contributing to widespread rain from New York to Maine. The rain also served to stabilize temperatures, providing mild weather after a cooler week.
Residents are encouraged to report their rainfall totals to the NWS for further analysis. Weather conditions are expected to stabilize into the coming week.
