Georges Bank, Massachusetts – Gale-force winds and rough seas are set to batter Georges Bank between Cape Cod and the 68W longitude through Saturday night, with mariners urged to brace for hazardous marine conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, a gale warning remains in effect as south winds intensify to 25 to 35 knots Saturday, pushing seas up to 11 feet by the afternoon. Areas of dense fog are expected to reduce visibility to one nautical mile or less, especially Friday night into Saturday. The most dangerous conditions are expected Saturday and Saturday night, as rain and fog create additional hazards for vessels in the region.

South to southwest winds will begin to shift west overnight Saturday, with sustained gusts still reaching up to 30 knots and seas holding between 6 to 10 feet. Mariners should avoid non-essential travel, check safety gear, and ensure navigation lights are operational. The gale is expected to ease somewhat Sunday, but choppy seas and strong winds will persist through the weekend.

These hazardous conditions mark one of the strongest marine events so far this spring, reminiscent of early-season storms typical for New England waters. Gale warnings and small craft advisories may continue, with updated alerts likely as a strong cold front approaches next week.
