Boston, MA – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning as freezing rain threatens travel across Massachusetts. The National Weather Service warns residents of slippery conditions, particularly on the northern slopes of the Berkshires and Worcester Hills.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to begin after 4 p.m. Monday, with freezing rain likely in higher elevations by nightfall. Ice accumulations are expected to create hazardous conditions, with roads becoming slick overnight into Tuesday morning. Travelers are urged to proceed with caution, especially on Route 2 and other elevated roadways.

The five-day forecast suggests this week will bring a mix of weather conditions. Tuesday begins with patchy fog before rain continues throughout the day, accompanied by highs near 47°F. By Wednesday, expect heavy rain and potential thunderstorms, with temperatures climbing to an unseasonable 64°F. Cooler conditions return Thursday, with morning rain giving way to clearing skies and a high of 42°F. Sunshine is forecast Friday, with temperatures reaching the mid-30s.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and prepare for potential disruptions. Ensure vehicles are equipped for icy conditions, and allow extra time for commutes. For updated forecasts and road conditions, visit weather.gov/boston.
