Elko, NV – A winter weather advisory is in effect for several counties in Nevada, with significant snowfall and strong winds expected to impact travel from late Wednesday through Thursday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Elko, heavy snow will begin at 11 p.m. Wednesday and last through 11 p.m. Thursday in higher elevations above 6,000 feet. Northern Nye, White Pine, Southern Lander, and Southern Eureka counties are forecast to receive between 3 and 9 inches of snow, while higher elevations above 8,000 feet could see up to 11 inches. Wind gusts in some areas may reach 50 mph, creating hazardous driving conditions.
Northern Elko County is also under advisory, with snowfall expected above 6,500 feet from late Wednesday to 5 p.m. Thursday. Accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected, along with wind gusts reaching 50 mph, making travel difficult, especially during the Thursday morning and evening commutes.
Officials are urging residents and travelers to exercise caution, as strong winds could bring down tree branches and create low visibility conditions. Drivers should check road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.
