Elko, NV – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for much of northern and central Nevada, with heavy snowfall expected to impact travel from Wednesday morning through early Friday. Several counties, including White Pine, Eureka, Humboldt, Nye, Lander, and Elko, will experience snow accumulation ranging from 1 to 10 inches, depending on elevation.

According to the National Weather Service in Elko, snowfall will begin early Wednesday morning and continue intermittently until 4 a.m. Friday. Areas at higher elevations, including summits and mountain passes, could see as much as 10 inches of snow, significantly affecting road conditions. Hazardous travel is expected, especially during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

Residents and travelers are urged to exercise caution, as icy roads and reduced visibility could create dangerous driving conditions. Those traveling through impacted areas should allow extra time and check road conditions by dialing 511 for the latest updates.

Major cities affected include Ely, Winnemucca, Tonopah, Battle Mountain, and Elko, where snowfall totals will vary. Lower elevations may receive 1 to 5 inches, while higher terrain is likely to see greater accumulation.

The winter storm follows a period of relatively mild weather, marking a shift toward colder temperatures and increased precipitation. Drivers should ensure their vehicles are winter-ready, carry emergency supplies, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall periods
