Reno, Nevada – Gusty winds up to 50 mph could bring down tree limbs and scatter unsecured items across Mineral and Mono counties Saturday afternoon, with travel impacted and visibility reduced due to blowing dust.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, June 21, for Mineral County in Nevada and Mono County in eastern California. Northwest winds between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph, are expected. Patchy blowing dust could reduce visibility near highways and rural roads, especially in Mineral County.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and anything that could become airborne. Power outages are possible where tree limbs fall on lines. Drivers of high-profile vehicles on US-95 and US-395 should prepare for dangerous crosswinds and sudden dust plumes.

Today’s wind threat comes as part of a dry early-summer system moving through the Sierra and western Nevada. Similar wind events last June caused brief closures along rural roads due to downed trees and low visibility.

The Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. Updates will be issued if conditions worsen.
