Reno, Nev. – Afternoon thunderstorms may bring lightning and brief downpours to the Sierra south of Lake Tahoe and parts of Mineral County through Friday, while temperatures climb steadily across western Nevada.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, there’s a 10–30% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms each afternoon through Friday, particularly in higher elevations south of Tahoe. The rest of the state will stay mostly dry with Sierra highs in the 70s and western Nevada climbing into the 80s.
The midweek pattern could produce localized gusty winds and brief travel delays on U.S. 395, especially through mountainous terrain near Bridgeport and Walker. Outdoor plans in Alpine and Mineral counties may be impacted during peak afternoon hours.
By the weekend, high pressure is expected to rebuild across the West, pushing daytime highs into the upper 80s and low 90s across Reno, Fallon, and Carson City. Residents should prepare for elevated heat risks, especially in lower valleys. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Another update is expected by Thursday as thunderstorm chances evolve and weekend heat intensifies.
