Reno, Nev. – A sharp temperature drop and incoming storms will bring a weekend of changing conditions to western Nevada, with Reno highs plunging from 78°F Friday to just 62°F by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a low pressure system will move into the region starting Friday, bringing isolated thunderstorms and light rain across the western Nevada Basin and Range. Snow showers are expected above 8,000 feet in the Sierra, with marginal risk of excessive rainfall Saturday in higher elevations near Lake Tahoe and Mono County.

Reno will reach its weekly high of 78°F on Friday before cooler air arrives, sending weekend highs 5 to 10 degrees below normal. Saturday brings a 20–30% chance of showers south of Tahoe, while Sunday remains chilly with lingering clouds and mountain snow potential.

Drivers heading through Sierra passes should watch for slick roads above 8,000 feet and consider delaying travel. Residents are encouraged to keep jackets handy, check road conditions, and prepare for a colder, wetter weekend than earlier this week.

More updates will be issued if rainfall amounts or storm chances increase. Temperatures are expected to rebound into the mid-70s by Tuesday.
