Reno, Nev. – Drivers in northern Nevada should prepare for a mix of rain and snow beginning late Friday night, with possible slushy road conditions near Reno and higher elevations facing accumulating snow early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, showers will begin after 11 p.m. Friday, transitioning to snow in areas above 5000 feet before dawn. Winds from the west at 5 to 15 mph and lows near 36°F could lead to slick conditions on roads like I-580, Mt. Rose Highway, and U.S. 395 through Saturday morning.

Areas above 4800 feet may briefly see snow before precipitation tapers off by midday Saturday. Minimal accumulation is expected in the valleys, but mountain routes could become hazardous, especially for early travelers. Saturday’s high near 51°F won’t melt snow quickly, so icy patches may linger.

Residents in Sparks, Sun Valley, and surrounding foothill communities should stay alert for changing conditions. Those traveling into higher elevations—such as Incline Village or Virginia City—should consider alternate routes or delay travel until midday.

The storm system is expected to clear by Saturday evening, but additional showers could develop Sunday morning. Updates to weather alerts may follow as conditions evolve.
