Las Vegas, Nevada – Blistering heat will scorch southern Nevada this Thursday through Saturday, with highs near 106°F expected in Las Vegas and up to 109°F in surrounding valleys. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch, in effect from 9 a.m. Friday, May 30, through 11 p.m. Saturday, May 31, as dangerously hot conditions elevate the risk for heat-related illnesses and travel disruptions.
According to the National Weather Service Las Vegas, temperatures will soar to 105°F on Friday and peak at 106°F Saturday across the valley, including along major routes like I-15, US-95, and Boulder Highway. Death Valley may surpass 115°F. The risk for heat stroke is especially high in areas like Pahrump, Moapa, and Barstow, where desert terrain intensifies heat exposure.
Residents should stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of fluids, and check on neighbors. Children and pets must never be left in vehicles, even briefly. Without air conditioning, seek out designated cooling centers or public shelters.
