Reno, NV — Northern Nevada braces for powerful spring winds Thursday as gusts over 60 mph threaten travel, power lines, and lake safety.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a High Wind Watch goes into effect from Thursday morning through Thursday evening, impacting Reno, Sparks, Pyramid Lake, Fernley, and surrounding areas. Wind gusts up to 65 mph are expected in wind-prone regions, especially along U.S. 395 and I-80, with Pyramid Lake experiencing waves of 2 to 5 feet due to gusts near 55 mph.

High-profile vehicles may face hazardous crosswinds, and small watercraft should avoid lake activity. Outdoor items like trash bins and patio furniture should be secured today.
