Las Vegas, Nevada – An early-season heat wave will grip southern Nevada and parts of eastern California through Saturday, with temperatures soaring into the triple digits and prompting an Extreme Heat Watch for desert valleys including Las Vegas, Pahrump, and Barstow.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, the heat watch is in effect Friday and Saturday as a strong high-pressure system drives maximum temperatures between 105°F and 117°F across the region. Furnace Creek could hit 117°F, while Las Vegas and Laughlin may climb past 110°F.

The heat will also extend to Lake Havasu City, Mesquite, and Needles, where daytime highs above 106°F are expected. Outdoor recreation near Lake Mead and Red Rock Canyon may become hazardous during peak afternoon hours.

Residents are urged to avoid strenuous activity between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., drink water frequently, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Alcohol and caffeine can worsen dehydration, and low-elevation hiking should be avoided.

Temperatures are expected to remain elevated through the weekend, with more advisories possible. Stay tuned for updated alerts and consider adjusting outdoor plans.
