Valmy, NV – A minor earthquake shook parts of northern Nevada on Tuesday evening, registering a magnitude of 3.5 just northeast of Valmy.

According to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory, the quake occurred at 5:01 p.m. local time (00:01 UTC) on April 2, with its epicenter located approximately 56 kilometers northeast of Valmy. The earthquake struck at a shallow depth of 9.5 kilometers, which can amplify the shaking experienced at the surface.

So far, no damage or injuries have been reported. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has yet to receive any “Did You Feel It?” responses from local residents, indicating the tremor may have gone unnoticed by many.

Northern Nevada lies in a seismically active region influenced by the Basin and Range geological province. While earthquakes in this area are not uncommon, Tuesday’s event serves as a reminder of the region’s underlying seismic potential.

Officials advise residents to review earthquake preparedness plans, including securing heavy furniture, identifying safe spots in homes, and keeping emergency kits updated. For more details and interactive seismic maps, residents can visit the USGS earthquake website or follow updates from the Nevada Seismological Laboratory.
