Mina, Nevada – A small earthquake rattled parts of western Nevada Saturday morning, briefly shaking rural communities south of Mina but causing no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck about 24 kilometers south-southwest of Mina shortly before 5 a.m. local time. The quake originated roughly 8 miles below the surface, a depth that can produce light shaking near the epicenter while limiting wider impacts.

The tremor was centered in Mineral County, an area known for frequent low-level seismic activity tied to Basin and Range faulting. Residents in and around Mina and along nearby stretches of U.S. Highway 95 may have felt a quick jolt or brief vibration, though shaking was expected to be weak and short-lived. No disruptions were reported in nearby communities, including Hawthorne or along the Nevada–California border region.

Emergency managers had not issued any alerts following the quake, and infrastructure impacts were not expected at this magnitude. Still, officials encourage residents who felt the shaking to report their experience through the USGS “Did You Feel It?” program to help refine local seismic data.

Minor aftershocks are possible but not guaranteed. The USGS continues to monitor activity in the area, and additional updates will be issued if conditions change.
