Las Vegas, NV – A powerful winter storm is impacting parts of Nevada and California, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to higher elevations. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect until 11 PM PDT tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, the storm is expected to bring significant snowfall, with up to 12 inches accumulating above 7000 feet in the Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon. Winds could reach gusts of 45 mph, making travel hazardous and potentially downing tree branches.
In California’s Eastern Sierra Slopes, snowfall could reach 1 to 2 feet above 8000 feet and up to 12 inches above 6000 feet. Winds in this area may gust as high as 65 mph, further reducing visibility and increasing the risk of travel disruptions. The White Mountains of Inyo County are also under the warning, with expected accumulations of 5 to 8 inches above 6000 feet and gusts up to 50 mph.
Authorities warn that roads, especially bridges and overpasses, could become slick and icy. Motorists are urged to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, in case of delays or road closures.
