Laughlin, Nevada – Boaters along the Colorado River should brace for dangerous conditions this morning as strong north winds sweep across Lake Mohave, Lake Havasu, and Lake Mead.
According to the National Weather Service Las Vegas, wind gusts between 30–40 mph are expected south of Hoover Dam through midday Saturday, with sustained winds from the north at 15–25 mph. The highest gusts are expected from sunrise through noon, especially near Laughlin, Mohave Valley, and Needles.
Wave heights on open waters could reach up to 3 feet, creating hazardous boating and recreational conditions. Key areas impacted include Cottonwood Cove, Willow Beach, and the Overton Arm. Lake Mohave saw gusts near 30 mph early Saturday, gradually tapering through the afternoon, while conditions remain choppy into the evening across Lake Havasu.
Officials urge boaters to avoid open waters, wear life jackets, and secure gear. Smaller watercraft may struggle with stability, particularly in exposed channels.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve by late Saturday evening, though caution remains advised through the day. Additional updates may follow if gusts persist or intensify.
