Omaha, NE – Residents of eastern Nebraska should prepare for dangerously cold conditions on Wednesday as subzero wind chills settle across the region. The National Weather Service reports temperatures will struggle to rise above the mid-30s, while brisk northwest winds create hazardous driving and outdoor conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values could drop to near -10°F during the morning commute, particularly along Interstate 80 and local highways. Residents are urged to dress in layers, avoid prolonged exposure, and ensure vehicles are winter-ready.

Wednesday’s forecast predicts a mostly sunny day with a high near 36°F. Light southwest winds in the afternoon may provide brief relief before plunging to overnight lows near 20°F. The arctic air mass will remain in place through Thursday morning, with wind gusts potentially reaching 20 mph.

Looking ahead, conditions are expected to moderate by Thursday, with highs reaching 45°F under sunny skies. By Friday, temperatures could climb to 46°F before another cold front sweeps in over the weekend, bringing lows back into the teens.

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor updates and stay cautious while outdoors. Frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes in these conditions. Motorists should check road conditions before traveling and carry emergency kits.
