Omaha, NE – Freezing rain moving across Nebraska is creating hazardous conditions for drivers on Saturday, especially along Interstate 80. Ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch are expected in some areas, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Omaha/Valley, freezing drizzle and rain will continue through early Saturday morning, affecting northeast and southeast Nebraska, including Lincoln and Omaha. The freezing line is slowly moving northward, but road conditions are deteriorating. Drivers should anticipate icy patches, particularly near I-80 and other heavily traveled routes.

Precipitation is expected to shift to rain after sunrise as temperatures climb into the mid-30s. However, localized ice patches will persist, particularly in shaded areas and bridges. The advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday.

For the weekend ahead, Nebraska residents can expect mostly cloudy conditions Saturday afternoon with a high of 37°F. Rain may linger in some areas before tapering off by evening. Sunday brings partly sunny skies with highs near 46°F, providing a welcome break from icy conditions. Monday and Tuesday are forecast to remain dry, with highs reaching the mid-40s.

Officials urge caution for those venturing outdoors. Slippery roads and sidewalks increase the risk of accidents and injuries. For updated road conditions, residents can call 511 or check online traffic reports.

Prepare for potential power outages and slow travel times this morning. Residents are reminded to monitor forecasts for additional updates as conditions evolve.
