Hastings, NE – Drivers across central Nebraska should prepare for hazardous road conditions as freezing rain and dense fog continue to impact the region. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. today, with slick roads and limited visibility reported, especially along I-80 and major highways.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings, freezing drizzle and fog began early this morning, creating ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch. Thunderstorms have also developed across parts of central Kansas, slowly pushing into south-central Nebraska. These storms may bring isolated small hail and brief bursts of rain to areas with above-freezing temperatures.

For those traveling this weekend, officials urge caution. Slippery roads, including bridges and overpasses, will pose increased risks, particularly in low-visibility conditions. The Nebraska Department of Transportation advises residents to check 511.nebraska.gov for updated road conditions before heading out.

The forecast improves by late Saturday morning, with skies clearing as temperatures climb to a high of 37 degrees. Saturday night will bring partly cloudy skies and lows around 24. Sunday and Monday promise mostly sunny weather, with highs reaching 46 and 49, respectively. However, patchy morning fog could linger.

Travelers should avoid unnecessary trips until the advisory lifts and allow extra time for their destinations. Ice accumulation on sidewalks and driveways may also increase the risk of slips and falls.
