Hastings, Neb. – Rain-hungry residents across Nebraska will have little to celebrate this week as mild temperatures persist and only meager rainfall chances drift in through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, most of central and south-central Nebraska will remain dry despite thick cloud cover and afternoon highs in the 70s. Winds out of the east will increase slightly Tuesday, with gusts reaching up to 25 mph. While Nebraska remains largely dry, neighboring northern Kansas counties may see weak evening thunderstorms and light showers starting Tuesday night.

Rain chances will remain minimal through Thursday, with most of the region seeing only trace amounts. Nebraska counties are expected to receive less than 0.10 inch of rain, while areas near the Kansas border may see slightly more—up to 0.25 inch. The highest chance for precipitation will be near the Kansas state line, particularly in counties like Smith, Osborne, and Mitchell.

Drivers should stay aware of slick spots if isolated storms do develop, though widespread impacts are unlikely. Residents hoping for drought relief should continue water conservation efforts as the dry pattern holds.

No additional advisories are expected, but the NWS notes that rain chances could increase slightly heading into the weekend.
