Lincoln, Neb. – Strong to severe thunderstorms are sweeping across Nebraska this evening, putting more than 50 counties under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 1 a.m. CDT Tuesday. High winds and large hail are the primary threats, with isolated power outages and travel delays possible into the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 357 includes Adams, Custer, Buffalo, Knox, Dodge, and 50 other counties statewide. The alert covers central, eastern, and northeastern Nebraska, including the cities of Lincoln, Norfolk, Grand Island, and North Platte.

Storms are expected to intensify along a frontal boundary stretching from western into central Nebraska, moving eastward through the evening. Wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail the size of quarters or larger are possible. Lightning activity could disrupt outdoor plans, and brief downpours may reduce visibility on highways such as I-80, US-281, and US-30.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, stay off the roads during strong cells, and monitor local alerts. Keep phones charged in case of power loss, and move vehicles into covered areas where possible.

Additional warnings could be issued later tonight as storms develop. The threat is expected to taper off by early Tuesday morning.
