Hastings, Nebraska – Scattered thunderstorms could develop across southern Nebraska Friday afternoon as an unsettled weather pattern continues to impact the region heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, showers and storms are expected through Friday evening, with the strongest activity remaining just south over parts of north-central Kansas. Storm chances decrease into Saturday and Sunday, though isolated storms are still possible—especially during the late afternoon hours.
Highs will stay cooler today, ranging from the mid-60s to near 70 across central Nebraska. Southeast winds will increase to 10–15 mph this afternoon. Friday’s high temperatures are forecast to climb into the 70s, followed by a warmup into the 80s by Saturday, bringing summer-like heat back to the area.
Drivers should be alert for wet roads and brief downpours, especially near the Kansas border. Residents planning outdoor events this weekend should keep a backup plan ready, particularly on Sunday when wind gusts could exceed 20 mph.
Storm chances diminish by Monday, but another system may bring renewed rain by midweek.
