Omaha, NE – Drivers in Nebraska are urged to exercise caution this weekend as light snow is expected to create slick spots and reduce visibility, particularly near Interstate 80. The National Weather Service predicts minor snowfall today, with two rounds of light snow impacting southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa this morning and northeast Nebraska by the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, snowfall accumulations will likely remain under 0.5 inches, but icy patches could pose risks on roads, especially during high traffic times. Visibility may drop to one mile or less in some areas. If traveling, reduce speeds and keep headlights on, particularly during morning and afternoon commutes.

Saturday’s high temperature will reach near 29 degrees, with snow tapering off by the evening. Sunday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 28 degrees, providing a brief break from wintry conditions. However, the week ahead shows fluctuating conditions. Monday and Tuesday bring a return to sunnier skies, with highs peaking near 40 degrees by midweek.

Roadways, including I-80 and surrounding highways, could remain slick through Saturday night as overnight temperatures drop to 16 degrees. Motorists are advised to monitor weather updates and check road conditions before heading out.

For a detailed forecast, residents can expect mostly clear skies by midweek with temperatures warming slightly. By Thursday, highs will hover in the mid-30s with calm winds, offering a reprieve from wintry precipitation.
