Hastings, NE – Foggy conditions are expected to develop across portions of south-central Nebraska and north-central Kansas Thursday morning, reducing visibility and creating potential hazards for drivers. Gusty northerly winds and snow showers are also forecast later in the day, with a brief accumulation of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings, visibility may drop to a quarter-mile or less in some areas, especially near the Nebraska-Kansas border. Combined with slick roads from light snowfall, drivers are advised to slow down and use extra caution, particularly on highways and rural roads. Wind gusts of up to 35 mph are also expected, further complicating travel conditions.
The forecast shows isolated flurries continuing into Friday morning, with temperatures hovering between 30-35°F. Saturday could bring sprinkles or flurries in the afternoon, with highs reaching 45°F before dropping back below freezing Sunday. Sunday’s forecast includes partly cloudy skies with a high near 32°F and a low of 10°F.
Residents are urged to stay updated on changing conditions and prepare for temperature swings over the weekend. Those traveling should monitor local forecasts and allow extra time for delays.
Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to climb above seasonal norms by midweek, offering a reprieve from the chilly weekend.
