Hastings, Nebraska – Dry winds and late-night thunderstorms could spell trouble for parts of Nebraska Monday as a Red Flag Warning goes into effect and isolated storms develop north of I-80.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, the Red Flag Warning is active Monday afternoon for areas mainly west of Highway 181 due to gusts reaching 30 mph and dry vegetation. Scattered storms (20–60% chance) are possible late Monday night, especially along and north of I-80.
Highs will reach the low 80s Monday before cooling slightly into the mid-70s through Wednesday. A few overnight storms may linger into early Tuesday, with broader storm coverage likely on Wednesday. The storm chance for midweek currently sits at 70–90%, with rainfall and possible lightning expected.
Residents are advised to avoid burning outdoors, secure loose items, and stay weather-aware, especially in areas with dry grass or crops. Drivers should also watch for reduced visibility or slick roads in isolated rain bands Monday night and into Wednesday.
The Red Flag Warning expires Monday evening, but additional storm alerts may be issued as the system strengthens midweek.
