Hastings, NE – A powerful spring storm is set to hit central and southern Nebraska Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing strong northwest winds up to 65 mph and snow accumulation in some areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 3 a.m. Wednesday, warning of hazardous travel conditions, especially on Interstate 80 and surrounding highways.

According to the NWS, snowfall totals will remain low in most areas, with 1 inch or less expected. However, limited locations could see up to 2 inches. The bigger concern is blowing snow and intense winds, which could create near-blizzard conditions in open areas, reducing visibility and making travel dangerous. Drivers should use caution, especially on rural roads and highways where drifting snow is more likely.

Wednesday’s Forecast

Expect a windy but drier day on Wednesday, with northwest winds of 25-30 mph, gusting up to 50 mph in the afternoon. Skies will be mostly sunny, and temperatures will reach a high near 41°F, helping to melt any lingering snow.

Extended Five-Day Forecast

Thursday: A 30% chance of snow in the afternoon, high of 46°F.

Friday: Another round of snow possible, 50% chance, high near 39°F.

Saturday: Sunny, high of 51°F.

Sunday: Mostly clear, high near 62°F.

While this storm isn’t expected to bring heavy snow, the high winds pose a real risk for travel and outdoor activities. Stay updated with the latest advisories, and if you must travel, be prepared for sudden visibility reductions.
