Omaha, NE – The first measurable snowfall of the season could be just weeks away for Omaha residents, according to new data shared by the National Weather Service (NWS) Omaha/Valley office this week.
According to the NWS, Omaha typically sees its first inch of snow by December 1, based on 30 years of climate data collected at Eppley Airfield. However, that first measurable snow has arrived as early as October 10 (in 2009) and as late as February 12 (in 2025).
Forecasters say it’s time for residents to prepare winter gear and snowblowers, noting that colder temperatures and early snow chances can develop quickly across eastern Nebraska once November begins. “It’s time to get your snowblower ready—or locate your shovel and ibuprofen,” the Omaha office joked in its latest post.
While no significant snow is currently in the forecast, forecasters encourage residents to stay alert as temperatures dip and precipitation patterns shift later this month. Historically, Omaha’s first inch of snow has often followed a late-November cold front.
Residents can track updated forecasts through the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley Nebraska page or local media for alerts on potential early snow events.
