North Platte, Neb. – Severe thunderstorms will continue to threaten central and western Nebraska through 11 p.m. CDT Wednesday, bringing damaging winds, large hail, and localized flooding to 19 counties across the state. Residents in areas from Valentine to North Platte should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions and possible power outages.

According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 247 remains in effect until late evening, covering key regions including Cherry, Lincoln, and Custer counties. Cities under the watch include Valentine, Broken Bow, North Platte, and Ogallala. Strong storm cells have already developed near Imperial and Hayes Center, with additional activity expected along Highway 83 and Interstate 80.

Motorists are urged to delay travel, especially along open stretches of Highway 2 and I-80 where visibility could quickly drop. Residents should secure outdoor items and have flashlights ready in case of outages.
