Hastings, NE – A powerful winter storm is set to bring over a foot of snow to areas near the Nebraska-Kansas border starting Saturday morning, with hazardous conditions expected to persist through Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals are expected to range from 5 to 13 inches, with the heaviest accumulations along and south of the border. Freezing rain and ice accumulation are also predicted, particularly on Saturday, before snow becomes the dominant concern overnight. Wind gusts up to 35 mph may create near-blizzard conditions, reducing visibility to less than a quarter-mile at times.

Residents are urged to delay travel if possible and to prepare for dangerously low wind chills reaching -20 degrees by Monday morning.
