Omaha, Nebraska – A powerful low-pressure system could spark dangerous storms across Nebraska late Sunday into Monday, with large hail, damaging winds, and a tornado threat looming for parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley office, thunderstorms are expected to develop Sunday evening, with the greatest risk stretching into the overnight hours. Monday’s severe weather threat ramps up significantly, with a high risk for supercells forming along and east of the Missouri River, particularly between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Cities such as Omaha, Lincoln, and Fremont face the possibility of hail up to two inches in diameter, wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, and isolated tornadoes Sunday night. Monday’s storms may initiate near the Nebraska-Iowa border and quickly intensify, with strong tornadoes not ruled out across eastern Nebraska. Residents along major roadways like I-80 and I-29 should prepare for rapidly changing conditions.

Officials urge everyone to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, especially if planning outdoor activities or travel. Secure loose items, charge electronic devices, and review severe weather shelter plans.

Severe weather watches and warnings may expand Monday afternoon as the system pushes east. Stay alert for updates through Monday evening.
