Nebraska – A cold weather advisory remains in effect across central, eastern, and southern Nebraska through noon Tuesday, with dangerously low temperatures creating frostbite risks. According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, frostbite can set in within 30 minutes if skin is exposed to these frigid conditions. Residents are advised to bundle up in layers, wear gloves, and cover exposed skin. If traveling, carry an emergency kit and check road conditions frequently.
Sunday’s high in areas like Hastings will reach 14°F but feel much colder due to wind chill values between -6°F and -16°F. By Monday, sunny skies return, but the high will only reach 10°F, with wind gusts up to 20 mph exacerbating the cold.
This arctic blast will persist through Tuesday morning, with lows dipping to -5°F to -10°F overnight Monday. Some recovery is expected midweek, with highs climbing to near 40°F by Wednesday in cities like Kearney and Grand Island.
Residents should ensure pets have warm shelter and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. Local roads, including Highway 281, may experience icy patches due to subzero temperatures.
