Hastings, NE – Residents in south-central Nebraska should prepare for a round of potentially severe thunderstorms Sunday, as weather systems bring heavy rain, strong winds, and isolated severe conditions across the region. The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued a forecast warning, urging the public to monitor conditions closely, especially along Highway 6 where high winds may affect travel.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop on Sunday, with temperatures ranging from 64 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Winds from the southeast at 15-25 mph may gust higher during storms, possibly reaching up to 60 mph. Localized areas may experience large hail, with some storms on the stronger side into Sunday evening. A second wave of showers and thunderstorms is expected Sunday night, leading into a chance of lingering showers on Monday.

By Monday, the high temperature is forecast to reach around 52 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies and thunderstorms potentially tapering off by the evening. As conditions clear, Tuesday is set to bring sunshine with a high of 54 degrees, while Wednesday and Thursday will remain cool, with highs in the mid-50s and nighttime lows nearing freezing.

Residents should stay informed by checking local forecasts and being prepared for potential road disruptions, especially if hail or high winds impact the area. Secure outdoor items, plan for possible travel delays, and remain cautious on roadways during storms.
