Omaha, NE – Nebraska residents are facing dangerously cold conditions as a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through Tuesday morning. Wind chill values are expected to drop between -10 and -25 degrees, posing risks to outdoor exposure.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the coldest temperatures are anticipated across northeast and southeast Nebraska, with the worst wind chills during early morning hours. Northwest winds at 5-10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, will intensify the freezing conditions. Residents are urged to wear multiple layers, limit time outdoors, and ensure pets have proper shelter.
The forecast for Tuesday includes partly cloudy skies with a high near 21 degrees. Winds will remain light but could gust as high as 18 mph, further lowering the “feels like” temperatures. By Tuesday night, temperatures will dip to around 6 degrees.
Looking ahead, conditions are expected to improve slightly midweek. Wednesday will see a high of 23 degrees under mostly sunny skies, but wind chills will remain a concern in the mornings. By Thursday and Friday, daytime highs will climb to the low 30s, offering some relief.
Travelers should take precautions, especially during morning commutes. Keep emergency kits in vehicles, and check road conditions before heading out. Those planning outdoor activities should remain vigilant against frostbite and hypothermia.
