Omaha, NE – A powerful arctic front is set to grip Nebraska with frigid temperatures and life-threatening wind chills starting Thursday. Residents should prepare for lows dropping to the single digits and wind chills as severe as -25°F through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will bring a high of 45°F, but the temperature will steadily decline through the weekend. By Saturday, highs will reach only 21°F, and Sunday will see a high of just 12°F. Overnight lows will fall between 4°F and 8°F, with wind speeds of up to 25 mph creating bitterly cold conditions.
Health officials warn that frostbite can occur in as little as 10 minutes in these conditions. Residents are urged to bundle up if venturing outdoors, limit exposure, and ensure pets and livestock have adequate shelter.
The extended forecast shows no immediate relief, with frigid conditions expected to persist into Monday. Clear skies on Thursday and Friday will transition to partly cloudy weather over the weekend. Stay updated on the latest weather alerts by visiting weather.gov.
