According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight through 11 a.m. Monday. Temperatures will drop to as low as 0 to -10 degrees, with north winds at 5 to 10 mph exacerbating the chill. Snow-covered areas will experience enhanced cooling, making conditions even more severe.

Monday’s high will only reach 17 degrees, with wind chills lingering below zero in the morning hours. By Monday night, temperatures will drop to -5 degrees, prompting further caution for evening commuters and those traveling along Highway 6 or other local roadways.

The extended forecast shows a slight reprieve later this week. Tuesday will bring partly sunny skies with a high of 17, and Wednesday offers a sunny break with highs reaching 25 degrees. However, nighttime lows will remain in the single digits.

Residents are advised to keep pets indoors, use proper heating equipment safely, and check on neighbors who may need assistance. Avoid prolonged outdoor exposure and cover all exposed skin to prevent frostbite.
