Omaha, NE – A powerful winter storm will bring blizzard conditions to southeast Nebraska Sunday, prompting urgent travel warnings.

The National Weather Service has placed Jefferson, Gage, Pawnee, and Richardson counties under a blizzard warning from 3 a.m. Sunday until midnight. Heavy snowfall of 8 to 13 inches, paired with 35 mph wind gusts, will create dangerous whiteout conditions.

The storm, already producing freezing drizzle, will transition to heavy snow overnight. According to the NWS, travel will become nearly impossible due to drifting snow and reduced visibility. Residents are advised to stay off roads unless absolutely necessary.

Local officials warn of power outages and hazardous roads as ice and snow accumulate. Temperatures will plummet Sunday night, with wind chills reaching -20°F by Monday morning.

Nebraska State Patrol encourages residents to prepare emergency kits with food, water, and flashlights. If stranded, drivers should stay in their vehicles for safety.
