Omaha, NE – A blizzard warning has been issued for eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 3 a.m. Wednesday, with dangerous travel conditions expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, snowfall between one to five inches is expected, accompanied by wind gusts up to 70 mph. A flash freeze is also anticipated, rapidly turning wet roads into ice-covered hazards.

The warning covers cities including Omaha, Bellevue, Council Bluffs, Nebraska City, and Falls City. Whiteout conditions could make travel impossible at times, and strong winds may cause tree damage and power outages.

Travel & Safety Precautions

Avoid travel if possible; conditions will deteriorate quickly.

• If driving is necessary, reduce speed, keep extra distance from other vehicles, and prepare for sudden visibility loss.

• Dress in multiple layers if going outside to prevent frostbite.

• Prepare for potential power outages by charging devices and having emergency supplies ready.

Road conditions will remain treacherous through early Wednesday. Authorities urge residents to stay indoors and monitor updates.
