Hastings, NE – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for central, east-central, and south-central Nebraska as blizzard conditions are possible Tuesday afternoon through late Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, the affected areas include Greeley, Nance, Valley, Merrick, Polk, Hamilton, York, Clay, Fillmore, Nuckolls, and Thayer counties. While snowfall accumulation is expected to remain light, with up to one inch possible, wind gusts could reach as high as 60 mph, drastically reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions.

The storm is expected to develop Tuesday afternoon in areas such as Spalding, Genoa, and Fullerton before expanding into cities including York, Aurora, and Geneva by the evening hours. Officials warn that the combination of strong winds and even minimal snowfall could lead to whiteout conditions, making travel dangerous, especially during the evening commute.

Residents are urged to take precautions and prepare for potential power outages and road closures due to tree damage and poor visibility. Motorists should exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated on road conditions through the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. The storm is expected to taper off by early Wednesday morning.
